The DE-INBRE Student Research Program (SRP) Academic Year Fellows Awards are competitive scholarships. These awards are intended to assist DE-INBRE summer scholars in continuing their research beyond the summer program and into the academic year. By providing funding through research scholarships, we hope that students can focus more attention and time on their research, deepening their inquiry into a discipline or project with a reduced financial burden.
Our first priority is to fund students with significant financial need. Typically, students demonstrate financial need through their eligibility for Pell grants. If you do not meet eligibility for Pell grants but believe you still have significant financial need, you will need to describe why that is the case on your application and be prepared to discuss your financial needs with the INBRE staff if asked for additional information. If funding is still available after awarding scholarships to those with significant financial need, additional applicants will be considered.
Students receive research scholarships of $3500 to conduct research throughout the academic year (including winter session). It is up to the student and their research mentor to determine which semesters they will work and for how many hours. The $3500 can be split up as desired over the year.
Awards will be paid at an hourly rate of $17.00 per hour using UD Workforce to log hours. Students will receive direct deposits every two weeks for the hours they have worked. To reach the full award of $3500 you will need to work 206 hours over the academic year.
Students cannot receive the $3500 and independent study credits for the same hours. If a student works more than 206 hours during the year, they can potentially receive independent study credits for the remaining hours. These arrangements should be discussed and agreed upon with the faculty mentor.
Award funding ends on April 30th 2026
Eligibility Requirements
Applicant must be a prior INBRE Summer Scholar
Applicant must be a full time University of Delaware Undergraduate student
Students must be engaged in research under the mentorship of a UD faculty member during the 2025/26 Academic Year. Applicants must already have identified a UD faculty member to work with at the time of application. Most often, students continue working with the mentor they worked with over the summer.
A statement of agreement from your mentor must be uploaded to your application. This document only needs to state that they agree that you will be working in their lab as an Academic Year Fellow through the DE-INBRE Program. It is not a letter of recommendation.
Application Deadline for first consideration is October 3, 2025.
